How to Deliver Successfully Wedding Speech Ideas?

August 28th, 2011

Few months ago my friend invited me to become the best man at his wedding. I was flattered for sure, but also a bit confused because of the upcoming wedding toast to say. You know, the best man is one of the first guests who take the floor at wedding ceremonies. That is why his wedding toast has to be perfect, so just married friends could remember it for ages. I had never problems with delivering toasts at parties, but I had no any clue where to get proper wedding speech ideas.

I decided to google and after few hours of useless searching for decent speech tips I managed to find a good website – Wedding Speeches For All – where they give awesome advices about what ideas for a speech to use and what to avoid, how to deliver a speech, give recommendations helpful for everyone who wants a unique wedding toast, and also offer to apply pre-ready templates of the best wedding speeches. I used these advices and want to spill few recommendations with other men who are desperate to find decent ideas for their best men’s toasts:

  1. The first one of wedding speech ideas to fulfill – do not make your toast too long. Make it no longer than 4-5 minutes. Boring toasts cause irritation among guests and you definitely do not want to become the reason of such negative spirit. Remember that even a short but well-pronounced toast can become the best one at a wedding.
  2. Appeal to the MC of a wedding to announce your performance before 3-5 minutes till the time you are going to take the floor. In such way all people will manage to fill their glasses to congratulate a bride and a groom after you deliver a toast.
  3. While delivering your speech stand up and before drinking do not forget to clink the glasses with other guests after spilling a speech.
  4. Remember I was telling you about the importance of good realization of all your wedding speech ideas? I advice to start with some humor or a personal funny story about a groom or a bride, but there is no need in delivering insulting or too intimate stories. Then continue with gratitude for a nice evening and wish happiness and long years of marriage.
  5. While saying some jokes, try to speak in your usual voice. Taking the floor at a wedding is not the same as performing during a stand-up comedy show. So try to avoid dramatic pauses, unnatural gestures or accents. Be yourself.
  6. Before performing at a wedding ceremony, practice delivering your speech in front of your friends or just in front of a mirror.
  7. Do not forget about an eye contact with a bride or a groom while telling your speech. Your first task is to impress them as a good speaker, not the rest of the audience.
  8. While telling a speech, do not rush and speak loud, especially if a venue where guests are gathered is spacious. Use a microphone to make everyone hear your toast.

And the last advice personally from me, not from that useful website – never give apologies that you are a bad speaker; you will leave a bad impression.
